Many years ago, when I first visited the beautiful island of Mykonos in Greece, I remember seeing a man sitting at an outdoor cafe with a huge pelican on his shoulder. Years later, when I revisited, I was told the man and his pelican died. The story about how the man found the pelican in the waters of the Mediterranean became almost legendary bordering on mythical. There are now new birds to keep alive the memory of the man and his pelican.
